Religious Views
Katy Perry’s parents are very religious thus so is she and her siblings. When she was younger she was never aloud to watch MTV, her dad used to say it was the devils music. Katy had her own religious album called Katy Hudson, but the album wasn't selling well so it was discontinued and taken off the market.
Katy Perry may have sung her way to fame with her 2008 hit "I Kissed a Girl," but her Christian parents initially thought the song about a same-sex encounter would bring an end to their ministry.Perry, 28-year-old singer and songwriter, said breaking the news of a homosexual-friendly song to two parents who were Christian ministers was not easy. In an recent preview clip from her upcoming big screen documentary, "Part of me: 3D," the singer's older sister Angela revealed that she broke the news to their parents.
"When Katy decided that 'I Kissed a Girl' was going to be her first single, I said, 'Have you told mom and dad,'" Angela recalled of breaking the news to their parents. "And she said, 'No, but can you?'"
Keith Hudson, the singer's father who runs Keith and Mary Hudson Ministries with Katy's mother, admitted that he was worried when the news of their daughter's musical direction broke.
"I was a little concerned, yeah, 'cause I thought my ministry after 30-something years is over," Hudson said in the documentary. "But, you know what? Never had a problem."

RELIGIOUS ALBUM!
Perry's first album is within the gospel music genre, the album was called: Katy Hudson in 2000 and 2001; however the record company closed down soon after. She related that her perspective in music was "a bit enclosed and very strict", and everything she did was church-related. Her second album, One of the Boys, is described as "secular" and "rock," and reflects a departure from her religious musical roots. Her next album Teenage Dream featured more pop songs in contrast to Boys. Many of her songs have been described as EDM or electropop, and she herself has been credited as an electropop artist. In her childhood, Perry was introduced to the music of Alanis Morissette and Freddie Mercury, the late front-man of the British band Queen. In her tribute to Mercury on what would have been his 65th birthday, Perry stated; "Without you I wouldn't be making music or doing what I do because your lyrics inspired me as a 15 year old girl." Queen's song "Killer Queen" inspired her to pursue a career in pop music after her first album. She also described that Morissette's album Jagged Little Pill as having influenced her music profoundly; even going on to work with Morissette's collaborator on the album, Glen Ballard because of that. Influence also came from a number of female pop singers, including Cyndi Lauper, Shirley Manson, Pat Benatar and Joan Jett, as "they came out with a vengeance." Perry also cited Madonna as another big influence, saying "I want to evolve like Madonna."
